Chapter 2: A Day of Adventure

On page 42, it says, "The Nez Perce people admire a person who forgets himself and thinks of others first." Soun and his father, Ollokot both showed that they take this value seriously.
Would you be brave enough to stand up to a mountain lion to save a baby horse, like six-year-old Soun did? Or would you choose to quit a race that you had a really good chance of winning to help a friend who needed you, like Ollokot did? Can you think of a time when you put someone else's needs or wants ahead of your own?
I think it's cool that the Nez Perce were so good with horses. Do you think they invented horse racing?
